Does handbrake convert mxf files to mp4?

Post by tml4191 »

I attempted to convert an MXF file to mp4, and it just crashed. I've deleted handbrake since then, but I'm now wondering if it's even possible. If it is, then I might d/l it again. I don't have any logs to share right now, but does anyone know if 4K MXF files convert to MP4 files well on handbrake?

Support for MXF is included in Libav, which HandBrake uses to open such files. So it should work. If not, perhaps we can get a small sample from you to fix this.

Make sure to read Where to get HandBrake. Some third-parties, mostly Linux distros, are shipping broken builds. Sadly, we have little control over this.

I just redownloaded it off the site you linked, and I noticed that handbrake doesn't convert anything at all! That's strange since it worked well when it was integrated with vegas pro 14 a few months ago. It started malfunctioning out of the blue, so I deleted it. Fast forward to today, and it's not working at all, even as a solo program. This is all I get: http://imgur.com/a/SsaXF

Well, that's a bummer.

Are you running the Windows 10 Creators Update? What about RivaTuner?

MXF is a wrapper.
That means Handbrake can support or NOT support many encoders that can be wrapped as MXF. For instance, Sony MXF has some support, while Avid MXF does not.

Post complete MediaInfo for your file and where it came from if you would like specific help.

Ah, yes. My brain forgot the nature of MXF entirely. MediaInfo would help immensely, and please post a HandBrake activity log as well.

That looks the same as XAVC-S which is mp4.
The Sony version opens flawlessly in Handbrake.
Lodging a ticket with libav might produce an easy fix.

Meantime, there's a middling chance that muxing MXF to MP4 in ffmpeg before Handbrake will get you up and running. It goes quickly. Try something like:

Code: Select all

ffmpeg -i "file name.mxf" -vcodec copy -acodec copy "file name.mp4"

Nothing works at all. Handbrake worked flawlessly a few months ago on this same computer, but now any file that I attempt to render results in a complete stoppage of the program. Thank you all for giving me input, but I think I'll have to pass on HB for now.

I tested other files and attempted different settings, and it completely just stopped working every time.

Really sorry to hear you're having trouble. Maybe take a look at these troubleshooting tips: https://handbrake.fr/docs/en/1.0.0/help ... ssues.html

To help more we'll need to see an activity log, and a crash log if you have one. Good luck.

This is as far as it gets when I attempt to render any file. Thank for the tips though. I'm just wondering how come it worked previously and stopped out of the blue.
It doesn't let me click anything else besides close program.
