keep some attributes of the source file (date)

Post by shogun »

Add the option to keep the date creation and/or the date modification of the source file

==> when you use handbrake to reencode your personal video, It would be good to preserve the date because it is very usefull to manage the exact moment the video was recorded for classification (can also be usefull in tools like DNLA server for automatic classification by year)
(the best would be to keep/force also the meta data)

Thanks for your awesome tool :)
i'm using the 1.07 version under windows 64 bit

There is not a uniform system of keeping metadata across formats and containers, so this is not possible

at least some date exist at the file level. date creation, date modification.
They are not dependant of any container
it could be a 1st step.

why are you anxious, my request is simple :)
for example in Tool / preference, you can generate the filename using some variable like {source}
why could not there be another option where you could define the date of the file (creation, modification or both) based on the source date (or other thing).

in shell the equivalent is : touch - r <the sourcefile> <the dest file>
it modify the date of the 2nd file using the valueof the 1st.

The Windows creation and modification dates CHANGE every time a file is moved, copied, or saved. That is totally NOT the date the video was created; do your homework guys, or post your code, because this is all speculation.

There are plenty of tag editors to enter information manually or per batch; Handbrake just isn't one of them.
