Re: File output auto-destination
"Same as source" in the GUI has been asked for many times. It has, so far, been universally rejected as it is highly dangerous. It is far too simple to overwrite your source file with the output.
I know - I used to have the t-shirt franchise for that.

Evidently not.Woodstock wrote:"Same as source" in the GUI has been asked for many times. It has, so far, been universally rejected
In the nightly {source_path} is valid as an output path in the preferences.

I'm sure there are several plain simple ways to make this perfectly safe

Yes, there are. And some user somewhere is going to ignore every warning dialog and popup you give them because "they know what they are doing". I've seen a good number of unhappy and irate posts and emails from users that overwrote their source file, even though the GUI pops up a dialog asking if they are sure they want to overwrite the file when the job is added to the queue.Lodee wrote:Well, it's 21st Century. It happens, but then even in present setup.
Anyway, you can always make this a Preference option, under "output files", e.g.:
Checkbox - "Auto source folder output"
Also, option to automatically name output file:
filename+"converted".mp4

Does this work for you?rollin_eng wrote: In the nightly {source_path} is valid as an output path in the preferences.

HandBrake on Mac will be sandboxed in the future. And the sandbox doesn't let you write randomly on the disk, so don't get your hope up on this.
