I own the LOTR set of discs that have the theatrical and extended versions of all three movies on double sided discs. The movies are split so I have ripped them all with MTR and encoded via Handbrake, then using QT Pro, I merged the movies. This has worked for the first two movies but something weird is happening for the third one. Side B, which is the latter half of the movie encodes just fine but for some reason every time I try to encode Side A Handbrake hangs at about 30 minutes into the movie. I have tried it several times, I have re-ripped the DVD and I keep having the same issue. I have even spun the DVD in my cleaner to make sure its not a scratch thats causing it (it plays back fine on a DVD player). Has anyone else had this issue? The only other alternative I know is to use FFmpeg instead of Handbrake but Id rather not do it that way.
Im using OSX 10.4.10, Handbrake 0.9 on a G5 Quad.

HandBrake has a known issue which results in slight movie truncation sometimes. A little searching could have thrown that up - as well as this thread on how to rip 2-disc movies.
Yeah I saw that thread before I posted but it doesnt help at all and I did search thoroughly before I posted. I know how to join movies that are split on 2 discs. The problem is with Handbrake freezing up about 25% into the second pass of this encode. I have to force quit the app to stop the process. That doesnt sound like a truncation bug to me.
Edit: I have resolved the issue by encoding with Mediafork instead of Handbrake.

Oh, bugger. Sorry, totally misread your post - thought you said the movie was truncated by 30 seconds. Sorry for being a git.
If you're happy with the resulting encode then that's fine - MF is getting rather ancient now so I wouldn't recommend using it on a regular basis though. FYI, best practice is really to rip with MacTheRipper before feeding the output into HandBrake; I'm not saying that it would necessarily have solved your problem in this case, but it does prevent a lot of issues with copy-protected and poorly-mastered discs.

No worries but I still think Im not making myself clear. I DID use MTR to rip. In fact I did it 3 times. Twice as the Full Disc rip and once as the main feature Rip. The freeze was just so consistent with this particular disc that I was bewildered.
I had an old copy of MediaFork still on my machine so I gave it a whirl just to see what it would do.
