if you do find a bug, it's fine to mention it here, but please raise it in the bugs forum our out GitHub issue tracker. We don't want issues getting lost in general conversation.

I guess I'll spend Christmas evening figuring out how to compile so I can get off 0.10.3 and still have a decent AAC encoder on Windows.

I know this has nothing to do with functionality, but the About page for 1.0.0, is still 0.10.5.

Are you sure your running 1.0.0? Try a clean removal / re-install since it definatly shouldn't be saying that.

I've confirmed it twice...

The installer mentions that you have an earlier version, and to uninstall it.. so that's what I did.
Checked the About page to make sure it was 1.0.0. Wasn't.

Uninstalled via Programs/Features, restarted... deleted the program I downloaded, re-downloaded and installed.

Here's an SS of P/F side by side with the About page.

That is most definatly not 1.0.0. That's still 0.10.5 so you must have another copy installed and your shortcut is pointing to the wrong place.

Uninstall, verify there is no copies in program files, then install fresh.

First congratulation on 1.0 release. ;)

I have a question about VP9. While encoding I have a cpu utilization about only 55% on a i7-3770K (clocked at 4,4 GHz). Am I doing something wrong or is because of still to be improved optimization?

We'd need to see a log to see exactly what your doing to make sure your not bottlenecking it by another setting, but, VP9 Encoding will be slow. Google appears to optimise for their "customers". I.e YouTube. Not general purpose encoding as we do. This is one of the reasons we've delayed adding this feature for so long. It's just really slow. It's "usable" if you have high end hardware. If you don't, patience is going to be a key factor :)

Atleast with x265, it's under very active development and making fairly significant strides. They borrow a lot from the x264 project as well which helps a lot.

I just was curious about VP9 so I tried it. Slow as can be, yeah. ;)

You might try turning off qsv deocde in preferences. Not sure if it'll help or make things worse in this scenario. But nothing in particular there holding it back otherwise.

I suggest we should move the VP 9 discussion here viewtopic.php?f=26&t=27343&hilit=vp9

There are answers to some of your questions already in that thread and a documented series of benchmarks as VP9 development progressed. This post in particular is relevant to improving CPU utilization viewtopic.php?f=26&t=27343&hilit=vp9#p147934

Uninstall, verify there is no copies in program files, then install fresh.
and... that's exactly what I had to do.

After uninstalling 1, I downloaded 0.10, reinstalled, then uninstalled it. Found a leftover folder Program Files x86, removed that, and then restarted. Installed 1.0 and it's working fine now.

Thanks for the assist!

I just registered to ask this question:

What happened to HandbrakeCLI.exe?
I've used it as part of an automated process chain for downloading newly released videos, transcoding them, and uploading them to OneDrive so I could stream them on my phone. All without having to interact with my PC.

My automated setup worked like this:
- Torrent client looks for new episodes via RSS.
- Once the download is complete, torrent client calls a batch app I've written.
- The batch app calls HandbrakeCLI and provides it with the video.
- If HandbrakeCLI exits with errors (which happened from time to time), the batch app will retry up to 5 times (sweet spot, where even the most tenacious transcode finally succeeds)
- If the batch app is already running, it will queue the video and wait for the previous HandbrakeCLI process to end before transcoding the next video.

The batch app also hooks up to HandbrakeCLI's console output, so I can see the current progress and still have a record of what happened, should the encode have failed more than 5 times.

How do I use the CLI now? Do I need to create some kind of preset.json and call Handbrake.exe instead?
Hopefully, I don't have to make too many changes for my old setup to keep working. In the worst case, I'll have to revert to an older version of Handbrake... Hopefully that won't be necessary.

PS: Your registration system is out of date. I had to answer "Is HandBrake 0.10.5 the current version of HandBrake?" with "yes", even though it's obviously wrong.

Still there as a seperate download. It's just not included with the Windows GUI as it isn't needed there.

CLI works much the same way as it did before. HandBrakeCLI --help to get the options.

Thanks for the heads up. Fixed.

 Fixed the question or fixed the answer? :P I'm surprised we got as far as 0.10.5 before this happening.

Fixed the question. I think it was something about the spelling of Canada before. So it's probably a more recent change.

Not really sure if this a bug but Handbrake 1.0.0 seems to be using the old x264 version at least according to MediaInfo:
Writing application :
HandBrake 1.0.0 2016122400
Writing library :
x264 core 142 r2491 24e4fed
It should be x264 148 r2708

I'm on Ubuntu 14.04 maybe I need to remove some older files like x264 and reinstall? (I don't know where they are supposed to be located though)

Is the QuickSync-Support limited to Windows?

For the moment. I don't recall if John managed to get it working on Linux or Not but that would be the eventual goal.

HandBrake on linux uses the version of x264 from your repository. So if you want a newer version, you'll need to upgrade to a more recent version of Ubuntu.

The Version 1.0.0. is listed for use in Vista 32. But the install fails because Net 4.62 is needed and not available for Vista.
The Version 0.10.500 works like a charm...

Could you please have a look?

Thanks and kind regards

HandBrake only requires .NET 4.6 not 4.6.2 so you can download that manually from Microsoft.
