HD-DVD support?

Post by sadcaper »

Just wondering if Handbrake is looking to include HD-DVD support anytime soon? There are some programs that do this, such as AnyHD or DVDFab HD. However, they are both Windows programs. Plus, their output is an EVO file which I'm not even sure how to convert.

Anyways, just wondering if this is in the near future. The ultimate goal would be to rip my HD-DVDs and then stream them to my AppleTV.

Thanks!

Unlikely. It certainly won't have HD DVD decrypting functionality so it'll require a 3rd party app anyway (should HD DVD streams ever be supported)

Handbrake only supports HD transport stream files atm

Does this mean that HD DVD/Blu-ray will never be supported by HandBrake? Or just not in the near future? Thank you

certainly not near future. if support is ever added it would be unencrypted content only (meaning it would be ripped by a 3rd party app first before being fed though HB for convertion)

Would require some pretty major work to the core library I believe.

Some searching does wanders http://handbrake.m0k.org/trac/ticket/39
(Perhaps trac's ticket system should be promoted a bit more?)

WTF?

How can I promote it more than having it in the topic YOU ARE REQUIRED TO READ BEFORE YOU POST IN THIS FORUM SECTION ?!

For god's sake, why does this thread exist? Are you all incapable of following simple directions or reading the written word?
The README that should have negated this thread's very existence wrote: Here are features that are already planned. Please don't waste our time by requesting them again.

I will repeat that.

Please don't waste our time by requesting them again.

I did not put this list together for fun. If you ignore this list and post a redundant request, your post will be deleted and your name will be added to the Hall of Shame at the end of this README. I hate to be so harsh on the request forum but it becomes entirely useless for developers if you can't trust that each thread is a unique feature request.

These features are scheduled in a pretty much arbitrary manner. We do not guarantee any of them will be in any particular version. Consider the versions they're attached to to be loose guidelines. Some, like Apple TV support, might come sooner. Others, like HD-DVD/Blu-Ray support, might never reach fruition at all.

The following list is only updated when I have the spare time. For the most current list, always check the enhancements listed on the Trac: http://handbrake.m0k.org/trac/report/1?sort=type&asc=0

Also, see the Trac Roadmap: http://handbrake.m0k.org/trac/roadmap
How is that not clearly promoting the Trac?
