What are you using to decrypt your DVD?

nothing. the dvd is not encrypted. the dvd were made with a dvd recorder connected to a television for recording antenna tv/signals. handbrake 0.10.5 does not crash when encoding a dvd from a dvd recorder. the folders of the dvd were copied to an hdd.

Poorly authored disk, which is typical for set top box DVD recorders. If your claim is true, an upstream library may have changed behavior between 0.10.5 and the nightly and I sort of doubt the devs want to cater to these. I'd recommend ripping the disk with an app intended for that purpose, like MakeMKV.

MakeMKV is not a steam repair tool. VideoRedo or the likes comes into play with these kinds of files.

If you can provide a short sample that triggers the crash, we can look into it.

May need that too. Hopefully MakeMKV could at least get through the rip without dying.

what sort of a sample do you need? the the layout of the dvd is a 2 folder structure VIDEO_RM and VIDEO_TS. the VIDEO_TS folder contains .VOB files. do you need the .VOB files, a part of a .VOB file, both complete folders, etc.? where can i upload the sample?

An ACTUAL .VOB file from the original source VIDEO_TS folder here is probably most useful, as depending on your software, saving a snippet/sample out of the source may change the structure of the .VOB as the software may try to make the new VOB more "compatible" (probably by removing the errors), which would then eliminate the original issues anyway.

Problem also, is that the actual original .VOB files are probably massive to try and upload anywhere :?

Due to above, I would probably second/third the suggestions of rather than dealing with massive VOBs, it may be easier to try MakeMKV instead?

here is a link to a sample dvd

https://drive.google.com/folderview?id= ... sp=sharing

i drag and drop the folder named sample dvd which contains 2 folders onto handbrake, add the videos to queue, start the encode.
then it crashes after a few minutes.

Looks like a single files a few kilobytes in size. Are you sure it's the right link?

it should be corrected now, with a link to a folder named sample dvd, 800MB to 804 MB in size.
for some reason google drive does not allow the downloading of folders.
you will have to create and name the folders
VIDEO_RM
VIDEO_TS
then place the RM and TS files in their proper folder.
and finally create another main folder (named to your liking) and place the RM and TS folders in it.

I don't have the bandwidth to look at it tonight, but hopefully I'll be able to reproduce the crash in the next few days. Feel free to bump the topic every other day in case I forget :)

Not on the GUI, only got yesterdays CLI nightly with me here at work, but for what it's worth, although I got a lot of the similar 'libdvdread' warnings I was able to encode the sample fine.
