Intel Quick Sync unsupported on Sandy Bridge?

Post by Feren »

As per this Milestone QuickSync Beta it seems that Handbrake should support QuickSync on my SandyBridge, but it doesn't - why and what can I do to fix it?

You should install a current version of the Intel video driver. I thought mine was old... but yours is two generations older than mine.

Appreciate the response, however, I cannot update driver - it's a Lenovo laptop and I'm stuck with what they support.

I don't believe it's driver-related because my own ArcSoft Media Converter v7.5 shows QuickSync as encoder option.

My feeling is that this has to do with Optimus driver - it seems Handbrake prefers Nvidia's driver over Intel's.

We don't see the Intel GPU. There's a tool that lets you pick which GPU gets used for HandBrake, I don't recall what it's called off the top of my head.

Go to the intel website https://downloadcenter.intel.com/ and download the "Intel® Driver Update Utility" to see if it offer a newer driver

lenovo does have it's own driver download page on the lenovo support site as well... i know it's probably not your laptop, but the thinkpad t520 has somewhat close specs to yours and it lists 9.17.10.3347 as the current driver version for Win7... although current intel driver is 9.17.10.4229 :P so have it detect your laptop or put your laptop model in the search to get a current intel driver and see if it helps... unless that dGPU is causing the issue? :? maybe Rodeo is thinking of the Lucid Virtu MVP thing :P

Latest "NVIDIA Optimus Display Driver for Windows 7 (64-bit) - ThinkPad" for (my) T520 is 9.18.13.1269 which contains Intel driver v8.15.10.2538 - what I have.

The version of the Intel driver is only relevant if we see the Intel GPU, which is clearly not the case here.

Maybe this'll help? https://mirillis.com/en/products/tutori ... setup.html

I'd suggest doing this for both HandBrake.exe and HandBrakeCLI.exe
