A default "high profile" works fine, which you see at the beginnung of the following log. If I stop it and add NLMeans ultralight / film filter, it says immediately that the the encoding is ended, after encoding is started.

Re: With NLMeans it stops immediately

Post by linuxuser »

I added all the log I have. I am not very sure, but I think the 2nd encoding with nlmeans started after 22:59, so the last 3 lines should be from the 2nd encoding with nlmeans. Same behaviour, when the encoded file ist mkv. As alreday said, I start the encoding and within a second it says that encoding is finished.

Please let me know, how I can give you more informations. All I can say, that my "standard settings", which use always ultralight denoising worked with HandBrake 6945svn 2015022701. Now 6983svnppa1~trusty1 is installed, and I think the 2 versions before had the same problem, but I don't know the exact version, but my system is updated every few days normally.

Don't know if it helps and IMHO there is no more info. I updated to the version svn6984 and the situation is the same as before. Encoding immediately stops, when I use NLMeans

Re: With NLMeans it stops immediately

Post by JohnAStebbins »

Since the encode isn't really even starting, the encode settings are not getting written to the log. Could you try something else for me please. Set up the job the same way, add the job to the queue. Then quit the gui. This will leave a queue file in ~/.config/ghb/queue.???? with all the encoder settings. If you could post this file (in

Code: Select all

please instead of [quote]) I will be able to see your exact settings and possibly reproduce the issue.

Thanks.

Re: With NLMeans it stops immediately

Post by linuxuser »

What I did first was to do "rm -r ~/.config/ghb/" to delete files which could be the problem, unfortunately it did not help. I like also to mention, that I had similar behaviour before with presets, but then I found out, that the problem was solved when I created new presets and this happened only with some media-files downloaded from youtube, no idea what was the difference between working and not working.

I also checked, if the problem exists when I reduce my setting. Now I did nothing else than starting handbrake, activating NLMeans and starting the encoding. It stopped again immediately and when I quit and start handbrake again, I am asked what to do with the queued job.

Here is what you wanted, I deleted .config/ghb/, started handbrake, stored the job and this is in the queue:

This is a recording from a DVB-settopbox of a discussion, cut by Kdenlive and since I cannot tag it with Kdenlive it is recoded with handbrake. If It could help I could create a short clip of the original recording, so you can test with this file.

Here is a short sample with 30 seconds, which cannot be coded when NlMeans is activated: http://www.file-upload.net/download-104 ... v.zip.html

Password will be sent by private note to John (still in outbox, don't know if I forget to click a button to send the mail) If anyone else likes to check, please send me a private note.

This is a stumper. I used your queue file (modified the file paths manually but left all settings the same) and your video sample. Open the queue pane, load the queue file with the "Load Queue File" button, and press start. Works perfectly for me. No indication of any problem here.

Thanks for testing. If I change to HQDN3D everything is fine. What can I do to remove all files which have to do with NLMeans? I use Xubuntu 14.04.

There are no files specific to nlmeans.

For information: I installed the pc completely new and the behaviour did not change. Very very rarely it works with NLMeans, but most times it stops immediately, while it always works with HQDN3D.

Have you tried the 0.10.1 release instead of a nightly?

No, is it possible to tag with the stable version? AFAIK only the nightly can create tags. Tags are very important for me. If you think it helps, I can remove the nightly repo and try it. There is a good chance that it works, since it worked for a long time.

It has less tagging features, but it would rule out the new assembly code which is not in the 0.10.x branch.

Can you start ghb from an xterm and see if there are any messages getting logged to the terminal? It looks like I accidentally sent several of my error log messages to stdout instead of stderr, so an error message may not be getting written to the activity log.

I do not use the latest handbrake at the moment, but I will updated for testing of course.

dpkg -l | grep -i handbrake
ii handbrake-cli 7008svnppa1~trusty1 amd64 versatile DVD ripper and video transcoder - command line
ii handbrake-gtk 7008svnppa1~trusty1 amd64 versatile DVD ripper and video transcoder - GTK GUI

~$ ghb
Gtk: Failed to set text from markup due to error parsing markup: Fehler in Zeile 1, Zeichen 35: Element »markup« wurde geschlossen, aber das derzeit offene Element ist »b«

Maybe this occurs since 3 other Handbrake encodings are running at the moment.

In a terminal I can start HandBrakeCLI too, just an info.

I am guessing, I hope I didn't mix stable and unstable versions somehow.

I will test ASAP, at the moment I am encoding 3 dvb-recordings. Probably tomorrow evening.

Unfortunately there is no more info started ghb in a shell:

I changed the title of the thread. Now with HandBrake svn7085 (2015041201) and HQDN3D the encoding doesn't start too. If I disable denoise everything seems to be fine.

I removed the snapshot repo and try now HandBrake 0.10.1 (2015030800) - Linux x86_64. For the moment NLMeans works, which didn't with svn7085 (2015041201). Let me know, if you need some info.

HandBrake 0.10.1 (2015030800) doesn't write metatags, like title, year, a.s.o which is very important for me.

Edit: This cannot be said generally. for the stable version. Now one encoding contained metatags.

In the meantime I encoded a few very problematic dvb-streams, eg they could not be played with vlc or only partially, crashed with kdenlive, a.s.o.
HandBrake 0.10.1 (2015030800) encoded them all as expected, no problems detected. So IMHO there must be a bug with the development versions.

I think this log is related to this topic, although encoding took 10 minutes, but at the end the filesize was 5,2kb

I will wait until tomorrow and use the unstable repo then.

Re: With NLMeans + HQDN3D it stops immediately

Post by JohnAStebbins »

@linuxuser, FYI surrounding logs in "code" blocks instead of "quote" blocks is better for formatting. It doesn't force everyone to scroll past the full log text to see the next post. It also preserves the formatting of the log better so we can see indentation. quote blocks strip white space.

This particular encode finished early for some reason. The log doesn't really show the reason.

Code: Select all

[15:35:01] sync: got 1207 frames, 269850 expected
The timestamps in the log also indicates that it didn't encode for 10 minutes. The enocde lasted from 15:33:35 to 15:35:01. So only 1 minute 26 seconds. Are you sure you posted the correct log?

Ok, I will use "code" next time. Yes, I double checked, that I posted the whole log. I will shutdown the pc now and try to encode the file again, let's see what happens. Since Denoise take a long time, my next reply could take a while.

Trying now svn7105 (2015042001) with the dvb-source from above (der-schwarze-blitz), encoding wasn't stopped till now and the borders are cut off as desired.
