PC OK ... BLURAY PLAYER subtitles don' t appear :'(

Post by pataud »

Hi,

I am a little bit lost. I made a MKV file from a bluray following your advice. Everything is almost good on PC. However, subtitles are too big. When i launch the movie on my bluray player (divx), i can see it. However, when i try to put the subtitles, they are registered in the user interface but they don't appear.

Thank you for your help ^^.

Cordially,

Pataud

I wonder if perhaps you BD player doesn't quite fully support PGS streams in the MKV container?

Does this happen with every MKV, or only this one?

If your player doesn't support PGS subtitles, then your only option here is to burn the subtitles into the picture permanently.

Also, if the subtitles are the wrong size, it's because your player doesn't support sub scaling. Again, solution is to burn into the picture or find a better player.

Ok thank you. However, since i can use the subtitles when i launch the movie with the blu ray disk, the player can decode them. No ? Are you sure there is nothing i could configure ?

Bluray files use a different type of container so it's no surprise that they work there, and don't work in mkv.

It's not a configuration issue, it's a your player simply doesn't support it.

This has been covered in a few other threads and I suggest that you search for them for more info.

This is another take on the problem from me in one of those threads:-

Yeah. Go to http://www.opensubtitles.org and download the SRT file which most players CAN handle.

If you want to extract them, you can use "Subtitle Edit" on the MKV and convert them to SRT but it has to go through an OCR process which can be time consuming and prone to errors.

Then you can remux them back into the MKV if you wish but most players will use the external subs also.

I actually use XBMC for the download process as I have all my titles in a XBMC library

I have all my movies and TV shows held in an XBMC library where I can see the art and title information.

When I add a new title by copying the file to the correct directory, it shows up in the "Recently Added" section.

I then play the file and press the "Subtitles" button and the relevant subs are shown and I choose which one I want to download.

I have the "XBMC Subtitles" Add-In enabled.
