No Target Size - No new Version for me!

Post by mofarocker33 »

I am still using the 0.9.5 Version. I dont want to Calculate Manually. I think there are in between many great features. But untill now that feature wont be re-implemantet, i am not going to install any new Version. I hope some Guys here do agree. I always test the new Versions in a VM. But the latest Version, sorry, for me it is still a Feature Failure Version...

Still waiting for a Bugfix in your Encoder.

Best regards, some User!

Your choice, but it's not coming back. You can read this thread to see why: viewtopic.php?f=11&t=23912

If you're using Windows, you could use VidCoder.

Oh yes, our community lost a valuable member right there. Our member list is depressing when you start to look at it closely... Less than 1% of our users stay on to contribute to the community. By that I mean have more than 100 posts since joining.

I agree with you 100% however some posts and posters on this site can be a bit harsh.

When these are 2 of the first 3 replies are you surprised?

I think the original post has been edited where the OP said he was never coming back again.

Test Edit

If it was edited at any time after your first post, then it would show it was edited at the bottom of the post.

My point is if you want people to stick around it might be better to engage and educate them rather than saying:

@rolling_eng -> Firstly, We don't want trolls on our forum. If people join the forum to simply make rude remarks like above, they are not welcome here.
Secondly, his post has been altered. It was rather more rude in an earlier version. The forum simply isn't showing it was edited for some reason :S

You'll find the guys above are very helpful to people who are polite and don't act like children. Their post history says enough.

Most open-source forums I visit are like this. A few enthusiasts followed by thousands of leechers. Just the way it is. Nada you can do about it when your forum specialises in a particular field.

Is this directed at me or the OP?

Obviously I cant see this so I have no idea what was originally posted.

I'm sure they are lovely people.

Again I agree but how do you plan to convert leechers to enthusiasts? I don't have an answer but maybe you do?

It was directed at the OP.

There is no plan. There is simply no insensitive for people who don't find this interesting. 99% of people don't care as long as it does what they want.

I do. Leechers want attention. The rest want information. It's not up to us to decide which approach they would take.

In that case you should talk TedJ out of his depression, maybe take him out for a beer or cake (as long as its not a lie) :)

So you don't have a plan then.

No, I have no plan for the tail to wag the dog.
But this is getting tedious. You seem to be falling into the same trap as the OP.
Best.

I'm not seeing any traps to fall into, we are just having a polite conversation.

I'm not advocating for one thing or another and we are getting off track here (although I don't think the OP is coming back :) ), however when mods are complaining about lack of participation then maybe we the community should try to think up ideas.

Your approach seems to be 'Lets just carry on as is' and that's fine (and will probably be what happens) but maybe some other people can come up with some ideas.

First of all, mofarocker33 didn't bother to search to see if there might have been a thread covering target file size. Big NO NO in my book is to not bother with searching for something first.

Second, he posted an inflamatory (even the altered post is rude) as his first post here. Who's flinging the mud first? Every improvement is still a failure?

So, again, what is your point? Kiss the [Censored] butt so that he sticks around?

Or "Oh yes mofarocker33! What were we thinking? Your excellent argument to drop everything else we are doing and putting code back into Handbrake was so overwhelming that we are going to do just that!"

I'm chilling in Los Santos! I just don't see the point of trying to appease some one who comes in and posts that every thing that is being done is a failure, just because the one feature that he wants isn't available anymore.

I certainly don't want this, you seem to think I care about the OP, I don't. My hijack has really been off of TedJ's comment.

So to reiterate:

My point is if you want people to stick around it might be better to engage and educate them.

So how can we do this. I had some ideas such as:

I thought that first posts had to be approved by moderators, is this still true. If so do we need more mods to filter through stupid posts?
Is it possible to merge threads so that every time someone asks for the same feature it can be merged into a 'master' thread?
Is it possible to vote threads and/or posts up or down. This may provide positive feedback and encourage people to post.
The same with bugs and features. If someone posts a feature that is accepted can they get a 'gold star' or something.

I'm sure these are probably not possible with the current board system but maybe in the future.

It think s55 was suggesting that we let it go.
