New QuickSync beta build coming soon?
It's been five weeks since the first QuickSync beta was posted. Is there a new build in the works for release?
Re: New QuickSync beta build coming soon?
yes, next build is in active preparation
Re: New QuickSync beta build coming soon?
Patient I will be. Any changelog hints?
Re: New QuickSync beta build coming soon?

Re: New QuickSync beta build coming soon?
Can I only send you activity log, if I run the complete encoding or 1 minute run is enough? I just do not want run it for over an hour...
Here is the encode log and scan log after two minutes of run;

Re: New QuickSync beta build coming soon?
AAT, you have an exceptional situation
due to two points:
- your input shown above is MPEG2 , full support of MPEG2 decode with HW acceleration via QSV is planned for future improvements,
wherefore you can see HW accelerated encode only, see:
>qsv: Intel QSV/MediaSDK uses hardware implementation
>qsv: Using for encode only.
- you are using not recommended and lower driver than 3071, can you please upgrade to 3071/higher ?

Re: New QuickSync beta build coming soon?
Thanks for explaining the situation, sad MPEG2 is just future plan. Hope openCL support coming sooner, because I have another 5 Season Dallas DVD making them to mkv...
Here is the encode log and scan log with the latest Intel VGA driver (same slowness);
I just tried my another test input file (I guess that is not mpeg2) but same slowness;

Re: New QuickSync beta build coming soon?
Not working. There are issues with the .3165 driver under Windows 8, try the .3071 driver instead.AAT wrote:Here is the encode log and scan log with the latest Intel VGA driver (same slowness);

Re: New QuickSync beta build coming soon?
ATT, if you see :
>hardware version: 1.4 (minimum: 1.4)
it means that a driver below 3071 is used, please upgrade and rebot,
did you restart your PC after new driver installation?
yes, your second input uses QSV/HW accelerated decode/filter(crop/resize)/encode

Re: New QuickSync beta build coming soon?
I've just installed driver 3071 rebooted windows and same slowness occurs than with previous two drivers;
Where can I read my driver version in these logs oder than hardware version: 1.6 (minimum: 1.4)? Is possible my second turned off GPU (Radeon 8750M) interfering somehow?

Re: New QuickSync beta build coming soon?
Any time estimate? Week, Weeks, Month?
Also, is there any improvement in filesize or quality to be expected with a new build? Or is there not much what handbrake can do with QS and is the new build only useful for error handling and minor bug fixes?

Re: New QuickSync beta build coming soon?
There is no estimates. There are no plans. People just work on stuff when they feel like it. It's a hobby project.
No significant changes in output for most. I think the new API does expose the lookahead option so potentially you could slow things down for a small increase in quality.
Any chances would come of Intel exposing more functionality through newer versions of their API.

Re: New QuickSync beta build coming soon?
Yep. Not sure whether drivers are available for this yet though. You should also be able to turn trellis quantization on/off.s55 wrote:I think the new API does expose the lookahead option so potentially you could slow things down for a small increase in quality.
The rest will be mostly bugfixes (one of which we're still working on, which may or may not delay the build further).
Re: New QuickSync beta build coming soon?
There is no API 1.7 driver available yet which lookahead needs.
Re: New QuickSync beta build coming soon?
MediaSDK 2013 r2 is available with a software implementation of API 1.7. If I understand the release notes correctly, the lookahead is not actually used, but you can set the option. I guess I should actually install it and give it a try. Also, I'm told the drivers for hardware support are on their way, though I have no idea exactly when they'll land.gmb wrote:There is no API 1.7 driver available yet which lookahead needs.
Hopefully we'll have a build out soon after, though there's a known bug, unfixed as yet, which may hold the release for a bit.
Re: New QuickSync beta build coming soon?
Intel told me lookahead doesn't work with the current driver.

This is correct, and perfectly compatible with my last post.gmb wrote:Intel told me lookahead doesn't work with the current driver.

Does this new driver support lookahead?
Re: New QuickSync beta build coming soon?
My guess is probably not. Anyway, easy to test: install it and check which "hardware version" is reported in HandBrake's Activity Log (just scan any source with the Quick Sync Beta).
Example output with current drivers:
If it's reporting 1.7, and if the hardware is compatible (i.e. Haswell, basically) it may well support lookahead rate control (you'll need the next Beta as far as using it within HandBrake though). If it's reporting 1.6, lookahead will not be supported.
As for testing it myself, I won't install a preview driver on the only Quick Sync enabled hardware I have access to, as I need it for development purposes - sorry

Not supported. Looks like we won't see API 1.7 drivers anytime soon considering that even a new Beta driver based on a new driver stack don't support it. My guess is 2-3 months if not more. Maybe early September around Windows 8.1 launch. Pathetic from Intel.

Re: New QuickSync beta build coming soon?
So why do you guys asked me to install so many different driver if quicksink doesn't work with any current intel driver?gmb wrote:Intel told me lookahead doesn't work with the current driver.
