Hi there, just installed Handbreak on Debian system and it appears to be a very old version (rev3736 2011) compared to my Ubuntu version (rev0 2013)? I'm sure I've got the wrong repo so can somebody point me to the one I should be using?
Many thanks!
Latest Debian version?

Re: Latest Debian version?
The www.deb-multimedia.org repo maintains handbrake for debian. Ex:
http://www.deb-multimedia.org/dists/uns ... dbrake-gtk
Cheers,

Re: Latest Debian version?
Debian Multimedia builds have been very problematic and as such, is not recommended. As a general rule, if it's in a repository and it isn't maintained from us, it's a bad idea to use it. (on any platform)
You are much better off trying to build from source. (Which might be a bit of a pain as the debian repos are full of old libraries which are too old for HandBrake to compile or even work properly. You mught be better of trying to build one of the tagged releases. 0.9.8 or maybe even 0.9.6 or 5) Weezy is apparently not so bad.

Re: Latest Debian version?
Looks like it is in Debian experimental now too: http://packages.debian.org/experimental/handbrake
Edit: and that is being synced to Ubuntu universe (eek?)

Re: Latest Debian version?
Ubuntu has a broken build with features stripped out, so if It's tracking the ubuntu repo, then that's also a bad build.
We patch a lot of the dependencies that that build has listed, so expect breakage. We use specific revisions for a reason. It's not optional.

Re: Latest Debian version?
I believe it may be Reinhard Tartler's build, which would have mp4v2 and faac disabled (no MP4 output and only Libav as far as AAC encoding goes), but hopefully should be much less broken than say, what's available in debian-multimedia.stmiller wrote:Looks like it is in Debian experimental now too: http://packages.debian.org/experimental/handbrake
Re: Latest Debian version?
Looks like it's using unpatched system libs though Rodeo, so it's probably just as broken.
Re: Latest Debian version?
Not necessarily, the affected patches can be either skipped (Libav) or worked around (a52dec).s55 wrote:Looks like it's using unpatched system libs though Rodeo, so it's probably just as broken.
There may be additional bugs (a52 not thread safe -> occasional audio corruption at the beginning of the file when re-encoding more than one AC3 audio track) and missing functionality (mix levels unavailable from a52dec, issues with some very uncommon DTS samples, recovery points not working -> maybe broken previews for some M2TS streams, native TrueHD downmix not applied), but the build won't be completely broken either.
Most of the other contribs are either unpatched already (e.g. x264) or even using system libs in the Linux builds (Theora, Vorbis etc.).
Still, these builds are NOT supported by us.
