Machine Type: MacBook 2.0Ghz Core 2 Duo, 2GB RAM, 80GB HD
CPU Speed: 2.0ghz
Number of CPUs: 2
Rip Format (MP4, AVI etc): MP4
Encoder: H264 (Main)
Video Size & settings: 710x420 (1009x420), Deinterlace Off, Anamorphic On
Quality / Bit Rate: 4096kbps video/48Hz 320kbps 2ch audio
1 or 2 Pass: 2-pass
Average Frames Per Second (FPS): ~20 fps
DVD was Fellowship Of The Ring (Extended Edition) disc 1, ripped with MacTheRipper and stored on a FireWire drive on an iMac G4 - the MacBook was reading the VIDEO_TS folder via an 802.11n network.
Quality settings might seem a bit OTT but it's what I'm prepared to accept going for a "quality first, size second" compromise after extensive testing. If I had the space and the AppleTV could handle it I'd quite happily rip as high a bit-rate as possible but seeing as I'm waiting until at least a bigger hard drive is added before I actually buy an AppleTV I may end up having to re-rip anyway!

So i'm currently trying to use my 2Ghz intel core 2 duo with 1gb memory to import Toy Story....
It's encoding at roughly 0.6 FPS.
a quick CPU usage check shows around 6%.
why is this so slow?
and what can i do to fix it?
i'm not very familiar with all the terms involved with handbrake, i'm a relatively new user.
