Im interested in seeing some results from people with the Frames per second (average) and the CPU type they are using and what operating system. I ask this because using the same build of HandBrake on Windows XP and Linux Ubuntu I get big differences for the same movie.
EDIT : This is my Command line for the stats below:
/home/skozzy/HandBrakeCLI -i /media/sda1/DVD_RIPS/Startrek_05_The_Final_Frontier/VIDEO_TS -t 1 -o /media/sda1/DVD_RIPS/Startrek_05_The_Final_Frontier.avi -w 640 -e xvid -S 695 -2 -d -E lame -B 160 -6 -R 44.1 -v
These are results from Computers I have here:
CPU, AMD 64 X2 Dual Core 3800+, Windows XP, HandBrake Build 0.9.2.. Average conversion is 15 frames per second for Xvid 640x wide with Audio Downmix to 44.1 160bps
CPU, AMD 64 X2 Dual Core 3800+, Ubuntu 7.10 i386, HandBrake Build 0.9.2.. Average conversion is 55 frames per second for Xvid 640x wide with Audio Downmix to 44.1 160bps
CPU, Intel P4 2.4gig (Single Core), Windows XP, HandBrake Build 0.9.2.. Average conversion is 7 frames per second for Xvid 640x wide with Audio Downmix to 44.1 160bps
CPU, Intel P4 2.4gig (Single Core), Ubuntu 7.10 i386, HandBrake Build 0.9.2.. Average conversion is 35 frames per second for Xvid 640x wide with Audio Downmix to 44.1 160bps
CPU, Intel Centrino 1.8gig (Single Core), Windows XP, HandBrake Build 0.9.2.. Average conversion is 9 frames per second for Xvid 640x wide with Audio Downmix to 44.1 160bps
CPU, Intel Centrino 1.8gig (Single Core), Ubuntu 7.10 i386, HandBrake Build 0.9.2.. Average conversion is 25 frames per second for Xvid 640x wide with Audio Downmix to 44.1 160bps
CPU, Intel P3 866mhz, Windows 2000, HandBrake Build 0.9.2.. Average conversion is <3 frames per second for Xvid 640x wide with Audio Downmix to 44.1 160bps
CPU, Intel P3 866mhz, GNU/Debian, HandBrake Build 0.9.2.. Average conversion is 12 frames per second for Xvid 640x wide with Audio Downmix to 44.1 160bps
CPU, Dual CPU Intel Xeon P3 933mhz, Windows XP, HandBrake 0.9.2.. Average conversion is 7 frames per second for Xvid 640x wide with Audio Downmix to 44.1 160bps
CPU, Dual CPU Intel Xeon P3 933mhz, Ubuntu 8.04 i386, HandBrake 0.9.2.. Average conversion is 15 frames per second for Xvid 640x wide with Audio Downmix to 44.1 160bps
CPU, Intel Core 2 Duo E4600, Windows XP, HandBrake 0.9.2.. Average conversion 88 frames per second for Xvid 640x wide with Audio Downmix to 44.1 160bps
CPU, Intel Core 2 Duo E4600, Ubuntu 7.10 i386, HandBrake 0.9.2.. Average conversion 166 frames per second for Xvid 640x wide with Audio Downmix to 44.1 160bps
EDIT: I am building a system for a friend with a faster CPU and RAM then the last test(EDIT: Turns out to be cheapest MB on the market), I am keen to see the difference in speed when it's done.
CPU, Intel Core 2 Duo E7200, Ubuntu 8.04 i386, HandBrake 0.9.2.. Average conversion 88 frames per second for Xvid 640x wide with Audio Downmix to 44.1 160bps <- All-in-one Main Board
RESULT: Guess that shows cheap main boards give poor performance.
