Machine Type: MacBook 2.0Ghz Core Duo (original), 2GB RAM, 160GB HD
CPU Speed: 2.0ghz
Number of CPUs: 2
Rip Format (MP4, AVI etc): MP4
Encoder: H264 (iPod)
Video Size & settings: 640x272 (widescreen movie), Deinterlace Off, Anamorphic Off
Quality / Bit Rate: 1000kbps video/128kbps 2ch audio
1 or 2 Pass: 2-pass
Min/Max or Average Frames Per Second (FPS): 33.15 fps
DVD pre-ripped with MTR r13. I get around 66fps for just straight mpeg-4, so I'm very impressed with the H264 speeds, especially considering I've got about a half-dozen other apps running at the same time.

Guide to Posting Benchmarks
You should both download the benchmark sample at one of the links below and see what your results are. If your results are vastly different, then one of your systems may not be utilizing all its resources fully.

Interesting. Here are my results with that file using 3 different versions of HB:
HB 0.8.5 Beta 1, G5 Optimized Version 70% CPU, 19.90 Avg FPS:

Wow! So baggss, based on the above, a G5 optimized version of svn 570 might give you close to 40 fps!? Sweet!baggss wrote:Interesting. Here are my results with that file using 3 different versions of HB:

What I am wondering now is what has changed in the svn that allowed it to give me a slighter greater FPS with close to half of the CPU load than the G5 Optimized version?
I wonder if there are plans for a newer G5 optimized version based on the svn of the next release?
The new svn has the updated x264 code, that is why its faster. As soon as the next beta is released cvk_b will surely post a new optimized version.
I wish I had better news. My G5 Optimized HB has already been updated to x264svn650.
So we got our speed boost a bit early (regular 0.8.5b1 was using 604).
However, jbrjake has made some adjustments to encx264.c that may help push a bit further.
If an increase seems measurable from standard release I will create another G5 version of the next beta.
