1000+ FPS encode any movie.

Hello everyone.

Not long ago I bought a NVIDIA Quadro P2000 because I am I construction estimator. I receive very large raster TIFF files and and many if not all PDF viewers are incredibly slow and rendering them.

What does this have to do with handbreak?

Well, today I decided to encode a movie from DVD raw to H.264 (Nvidia NVEnc) with hand break. Now what I saw at the highest recommended quality of 18 was something I could not find online so I decided to post on here.

All I have done was to change to Preset to HQ 720p30 Surround using Video Codec to H.264 (Nvidia NVEnc).

My relevant hardware is as follow:

Processor: i5-8600K
Video Card: NVIDIA Quadro P2000
Samsung M.2 Solid State Drive

My question is I was able to encode this movie at the limit of high settings over 1000 FPS...

Is this for real? Because this freaking card just encoded a 2 hour movie in 2.5 minutes including passes, at quality 18 and from beginning to end.

Last time I used Handbreak the FPS was orders of magnitude lower than this.

Intel i7 8700K with GTX 1060

- HQ 720p30
- Change x264 Encoder preset to SuperFast:

Around 740fps average.

- Turn off Decomb / Interlace Detection. (Possible if your source isn't interlaced)

Around 1200 fps average.

- Switch to NVEnc (Slow Preset)

Around 2000fps average

To give you some ideas. Even with software encoding, you can do 1000fps + if your dealing with DVD sources.
Note, HandBrake defaults to quality, not speed. So you have to tune for speed if you want speed.

Sure it's possible. The output filesize is going to be fairly large for the quality.

A movie consisting of slides and stills will encode at orders of magnitude faster than would complex motion video. It will also be much smaller.
It is one big advantage of interframe encoding (there are disadvantages too). Study interframe vs. intraframe compression if you would like to find out the reasons why.
