Macbook white Uni-body

Post by num1fool »

Machine Type: Unibody Macbook
CPU Speed: 2.26
Number of CPUs :1
Number of Cores: 2
Rip Format : MP4
Encoder: FFmpeg
Video Size & settings: 640x480 to 320x240
Quality / Bit Rate: Ave bitrate of 700
1 or 2 Pass: Single pass
Min/Max or Average Frames Per Second (FPS): Ave FPS of ~315

I run smcFan controller on max for a few before starting lets me run around 61C, and I use process wizard to give handbrake full processor use.
I'm posting this up because I couldn't find anything on this model before I bought it to replace my Gen 1 Mac Mini that with the same settings gave me around 15 FPS encodes.

I know the original post is a few months old, but I don't see any other posts on this machine so I'll keep them together. I'm hoping others may have ideas for speeding up this unit.

Machine Type: Unibody Macbook
CPU Speed: 2.26 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
Number of CPUs :1
Number of Cores: 2
Memory: 2 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
Rip Format : MP4
Encoder: H.264
Video Size & settings: 720x480 to 718x472
Framerate = same as source
Quality / Bit Rate: Constant Quality at 60.78%
1 or 2 Pass: Single pass

Min/Max or Average Frames Per Second (FPS): Ave FPS of ~35 (It is often as low as 23 fps and I've yet to see more than 45 fps)

I'm using Process Wizard but it doesn't seem to help. I'm rather bummed that I can't get the Frame rate up - its taking quite a while to get things done. Any ideas?

I'm going to take the totally obvious guess that you're using completely different settings.

No guessing required.

I'm kind of new to Handbrake --- and I *love* it. I'm converting all of my DVDs to files for my media server. Below are my settings. These settings are pretty much the settings for the "Normal" preset that's included with HandBrake.

HARDWARE
Machine Type: Unibody Late 2008 Macbook
CPU Speed: 2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
Number of CPUs : 1
Number of Cores: 2
Memory: 5 GB 1067 MHz DDR3 (4GB + 1GB chip - No, there is no noticeable performance hit from this.)

SOFTWARE
OS Version: OS X - 10.6.5
No other apps running except a single tab in the latest Google Chrome build.

HANDBRAKE SETTINGS
Format: MP4
Encoder: H.264
Video Size & settings: 720x480 to 718x472
Picture Cropping: Auto
Framerate: same as source
Quality / Bit Rate: Constant Quality 60.78%
1 or 2 Pass: 1 pass

RESULTS
I get an average frame rate of 45fps +/- 3fps.

FWIW: I just ripped National Treasure (2h 10m 56s movie) and it took a total of 1h 25m and the average framerate was 44.26fps.
