Super Slow DVD on core2duo 6750 (10+ hours - dvd)

Post by CodeTrans »

I just started using handbreak so forgive me if this is a nub question, but my encode times seem REALLY long. I ripped the Grateful Dead movie using anydvd and started the encode using constant quality rate at 61% but I'm getting maybe like 3.41 FPS avg and it's been running for at least 5 hours. It still has 7+ hours to go and it's only going at 2.5fps...

I have 100% cpu usage and the only change from standard settings was to include a commentary track, which, along with the original audio track is in AC3 format. Should I have not ripped the 5.1 mix and just done stereo? Is 14 hours to encode a ripped dvd normal?

Log? Presets?

Use ffmpeg as the encoder, with about 90-93% constant quality.
