My 5.1 DVD player plays mp4 but not m4v...help

Ok, Ive got a iMac and a Windows XP PC.

Ive been converting vids and DVDs on both devices. Ive been starting to use the Apple Universal preset, for my devices, eg iPod touch, nano, classic, Xbox 1, Xbox 360, and my Samsung 5.1 ht-TX35r.

however I just noticed on the windows version of HB, it has extension of MP4, and on Mac it is m4v, this has caused my Samsung to not play the M4v files. I tried to change the extension from Mp4 to M4v, but it wouldnt read.

2 questions...

1) how can I make the M4v to Mp4 so my Samsung plays it without totally doing a re-encode

2) How can I make HB on MAC do MP4 output files on the Apple Universal preset.

cheers

MP4 vs. M4V literally is just a difference in extension. QuickTime won't acknowledge things like chapter markers if the extension is MP4. Thus, if you enable chapter markers, HandBrake will automatically change the default extension from MP4 to M4V.

It sounds like your Samsung doesn't like chapter markers. Turn them off. :)

Ok thanks for that, how do I do that please? on the Apple Universal preset?

And why does Mac HB get .M4v, and Windows .MP4?

Can I do anything to the files Ive already converted then?
cheers

The player may not like the AC3 track in MP4 either...

At least chapter track can be removed with Subler, dunno about the AC3 track.

I've used subler in the past to remove an ac3 audio track, then used save and optimize. Worked alright here with version .8a4.
