Audio/Video out of sync on PS3?

Post by starkos »

I have been using HB 0.92 and mkv2vob to create flawless .m2ts files to play on my PS3. (Thanks and great work!) I just tried upgrading to 0.93 and now the audio and video are out of sync on the PS3. I've only tried a few so far, but the audio is ahead of the video, anywhere from half a second or so to over a second. It varies from movie to movie, but is consistent within an individual movie. The .mkv file plays fine in VLC.

My complete uneducated guess would be that 0.93 is using a new technique to sync a/v that is supported by VLC but not the PS3. I'll drop back to 0.92 for now, but is there anything I can do to help diagnose the problem? Is anyone else seeing this?

Thanks!

If you don't want Same as Source FPS, then specify a particular constant frame rate.

This change was covered in the release announcement, the NEWS, and the documentation.

That did the trick, thanks!

Though I have no idea how I might have diagnosed it from the release notes, the news, OR the documentation. You made many improvements to the audio sync since 0.92. "Same as source" worked in 0.92, and is used by the PS3 preset. Anyway, thanks for the assist.

The question of encoding for the PS3 with surround some comes up a lot on these forums. Perhaps it warrants a FAQ entry? I tried to add it to the wiki myself, but I guess editing is limited to devs to keep the spammers out.
