I've tried ripping several DVD's, all come through with stereo sound, no 5.1. I've looked at the Apple info site, there is no claim of supporting 5.1 that I can find, but it is definetly an item that one would expect, espcially with supporting current video quality and 1080i output. I contacted Apple, but they have no information...at least that they're willing to discuss.
