some copy to ipod, some dont...

Post by Goat »

ive been using handbrake for a while now ripping alot of my movies so i can have them on an ipod, plug it into my tv and watch them on the tv. I RIP all the movies at 720xWhatever, Mpeg4, H.264, i import them all into itunes, but when i try to copy them to the ipod some copy and some dont, i get an error saying "these files were not copied to the ipod because they are not the right type of file etc....". What i dont understand is tat all my ripped dvds have been Mpeg4 files, some copied ti the ipod and worked and some didnt? can anyone give me any idea as to why it does this?

thanks
james.

iTunes will absolutely, positively not copy any rip to an iPod that has a width greater than 640 or a height greater than 480, no matter what. The iPod chipset itself can support it and will play it back, but you will have to use a tool other than iTunes to copy them to the iPod.

What can you use to put movies on a ipod other than iTunes?

Forgive Me if I'm wrong but I have riped multiple widescreen dvd's at 720x... resolution, And put them on my 5.5 ipod with iTunes, I red somewhere that it's total pixels or something like that. If someone can tell me really how it's limited that would be great :?

I did. See above. There is no "total pixel" limit as of September 2006.

Rodney,

So your saying that iTunes won't copy any rip with a resolution any more than 640 x whatever :?.

Rodney,

If that is the case then something is wrong or I am mixed up, Because Just today I ripped Open Season at a resolution of 704x384 and put it in iTunes and then on my ipod with iTunes.

What resolution does QuickTime report on the ripped file?

Weird, I just tried it with both mpeg4 and h.264. No go on anything with a width over 640. Even though they would comply with the old total pixel limit for mpeg 4. They were each 720 x 304. Would not transfer.

crown, I have no idea how you are doing it. But, if it is working for you, I wouldnt mess with it!

Rodney,

Just thought you would like to know, I tried both h.264 and mpeg, mpeg worked at 704x384 and h.264 did not work.

I under stand what your saying so I don't know what to think. But as the saying go's "if it ant broke don't fix it".

I'm going to keep testing though.

thanks, crown :)

ps: I have also encoded 8 Below at 720x304 and Quicktime says its 720x304 and it copies just fine through itunes.
