Advice needeed.

is there a way to get the same quality then AppleTv preset but smaller files ?
encode time is not a problem
if not possible i'll continue using the AppleTV preset without the AAC track

Quicktime and Film preset are not really bad but too many macro blocks (lego blocks)

Destination player: Front Row (through iTunes) on Mac Mini hooked to Toshiba HDReady TV (and AC3/DTS Receiver)

i've read a lot on the forums but H264 enoding is not so easy to do it the best way.

Frontrow doesn't support AC3 passthrough, it's meant only for ATV. So if your TV is hooked up to a mini, then avoid AC3 sound and stick with AAC (2 or 6 channels)

audio is no problem, my mini is connected to my receiver and AC3 passthrough is fine even in Front Row, this is not the right place for this kind of debate

What i ask for is there a better setting then the AppleTV to get the same quality (perhaps smaller files) ?
my target device is a computer not an AppleTV

i look for settings that can give me same quality with perhaps smaller files !!!!!!

Just use the Constant Quality Rate preset. Maybe change it to MP4 and use AC3, if you're going to be using Perian.

First of all, I didn't say you had AppleTV...

You tilted the thread and decided to *based* your encodes off of the AppleTV Preset. You wanted similar/better quality with a smaller file size. So I pointed you to a thread that offers just that, and then some, based off the Preset you decided to use. Your use of exclamation marks seems unwarranted, for someone who got exactly what they asked, based on what they were using.

I'll remember next time, to not bother.
