Converting iPhone video (portrait format) to fit onto digital photo frame

Post by JohnnyBung »

Description of problem or question:
I am trying to set up videos of grand kids for my mother to watch on a digital photo frame. Original videos are in portrait mode and when I play on the photo frame it either makes the kids short and fat or switches it to landscape so it's all side-on. I am not sure if there are any presets available to fix this or if I need to create a manual one - and have no idea what settings I should use! Can anyone help please?

Steps to reproduce the problem (If Applicable):

HandBrake version (e.g., 1.0.0):

1.3.3

Operating system and version (e.g., Ubuntu 16.04 LTS, macOS 10.13 High Sierra, Windows 10 Creators Update):
MacBook Pro (old model) using 10.13.5 (hardware not compatable for newer versions)

HandBrake Activity Log ***required*** (see How-to get an activity log)

1.4 beta and nightly builds have a "padding" filter to add black bars around the video.

Excuse my ignorance! What effect does that have?
