M4V Video 1st frame is black

Post by StefanS59 »

Description of problem or question:
When converting i.e. an MP4 Video (from Magix) into M4V format and the video is either displayed on a standard HTML5 page or the Moodle video player, it appears as black.
As soon as the video is startet, it's all fine.
The source video shows - as expected - the first image frame of the video.

What settings would I have to adjust to have a video that shows it's first frame when the page with the player is loaded?

Steps to reproduce the problem (If Applicable):

HandBrake version (e.g., 1.0.0):

1.3.3.

Operating system and version (e.g., Ubuntu 16.04 LTS, macOS 10.13 High Sierra, Windows 10 Creators Update):

Windows 10

Additonal information:
I tried different settings (web optimized, Ipod support) all the same result.
When loading the exported file into MAGIX, I see that the first frame is black.
Export as WEBM works, first frame is the first video frame

Tried: Deinterlace: Off

Unfortunately: no difference, same effect.

Any other ideas?

Try to disable b-frames. Probably your player does not know how to handle them properly.

Is there any option to tell the system which frame to display when the file is launched into a player as preview?

What if you disable the "aling A/V start" checkbox on the Summary tab?

I tried this but NOPE< i still have a black preview as it sits on my desktop. Im just having this problem lately. Many other HB conversions have produced the correct previews. (using 1.3.3)
