Deinterlace not deinterlacing

Post by TheOtherNiki »

Description of problem or question:
Maybe I'm just not using the right settings, but since the update a while back with the new deinterlace settings, I can't get any videos to properly deinterlace. I used to be able to just select deinterlace and fast, and the video would come out looking perfect. Now I've played with various settings and can't get it to work. The tutorials I've found online all still have the old version.

Steps to reproduce the problem (If Applicable):

Settings attempted for this log:
Interlace Detection: Fast
Deinterlace: Decomb
Preset: EEDI2

HandBrake version (e.g., 1.0.0):

1.3.3

Operating system and version (e.g., Ubuntu 16.04 LTS, macOS 10.13 High Sierra, Windows 10 Creators Update):

OS Catalina 10.15.7

Code: Select all

[21:13:44] + Comb Detect (mode=0:spatial-metric=2:motion-thresh=2:spatial-thresh=3:filter-mode=1:block-thresh=80:block-width=16:block-height=16)

Try it without comb detect. Comb detect attempts to speed things up by only putting frames that meet certain criteria through the decomb process. Some sources... that doesn't work so well. Shutting it off makes handbrake apply decomb to the whole source. It will be slower, but the results can be better.

I tried without comb detect, but it's still not deinterlacing.

Your downloaded video "may" be a second generation miscode, affectionately known as a "frankenfile."
If that is the case there is nothing that can be done in a practical sense.
I'll be glad to test for you if you'll upload a link to an original sample in Drive or Dropbox.

Sorry, I gave up on the file I was trying to deinterlace. I've got another one that's just popped up though. I tried using an old version of Handbrake because I never had issues deinterlacing with the older versions, but it kept crashing. I still can't get this newer version of Handbrake to deinterlace anything. Here's the file I'm trying to fix at the moment. I'd really appreciate if you would give it a try and let me know how it works for you.

How can I tell if my files are frankenfiles or first generation?
