Once again, Thank you for HandBrake. It is such fun. ('sincere' emoji would be here if there was one)

Description of problem or question:
Can you suggest settings for further test runs? -- I'm at the end of my knowledge of what HandBrake does. Since the source is p24, & MPV is playing p24 (confirmed), & the laptop will display p24, I don't understand how the laptop would show any judder when playing the source DVD (except perhaps that the movie's source was actually p30-telecast and was 'detelecined' down to p24, thereby losing fields), but any further insight you can provide, even if pure speculation, will be welcome. Thanks.

Setup: gaming laptop (4K, xxHz) --- HDMI --> LED TV (2K, 60Hz), cloned display

As expected, all judders are twice as bad as is indicated above when viewed on the 60Hz TV.

Source note: The DVD movie 'blackhat' [2014] (480p24), 6:10 to 6:30 (-->0:00 to 0:20), makes the best test source I've ever seen. Chapter index is @0:04, so it's easy in MPV to review it over & over. @0:04 begins slow panning shot, 30-degrees down & left across steel wall panel, across metallic speaker grills (moire) & books on bookshelf, to actor's profile.

An Activity Log is required for support requests. Please read How-to get an activity log? for details on how and why this should be provided.

'cause your test runs description doesn't really make any sense, i.e. Q is not an encoder preset, and users can't generally be trusted to describe what they did.

"Q" means "Quality" Encoder Preset (as opposed to "Fast" or "Balanced"). Sorry, I figured folks would figure that out. I didn't mean to be obscure.

"O" means "Off"
"D" means "Default"
"Q" means "Quality"

Regarding an activity log, I understand why you want it, but there are 4 of them but they're not really applicable because it is the source video has the judder -- when I play the VOB in MPV, the judder is quite apparent. It's undoubtedly a flaw in the mastering of the DVD, and it's probably unrecoverable at this end of the production chain, but I thought I'd ask if HB can perform a miricle.

The source is a Special Feature of a commercial, studio DVD. It's p24, but exhibits 6Hz judder -- the only way I think that could have happened is that the author had a i30-camera (or, -telecast) source that he/she then tried to 'detelecine' it and consequently lost some fields. The p24 O,O,O-,O,O 18,Q setting produced an MKV that matches the VOB (and p24-to-p30 O.O.O-.O.O 18.Q was just a silly experiment).

You guys are very smart and very experienced. I was hoping you could make some suggestions. I would ask on the ffmpeg mailing list, but they just ignore my postings.

Oh, I made a mistake. The source isn't a Special Feature, it's the actual movie. That, of course, makes the judder even harder to justify.

I don't think "blackhat" was a made-for-TV movie, and even if it was, it shouldn't be at 24fps on a DVD, eh?
