Nvidia Shield K1 Tablet - Optimized Settings

Post by zynski »

Hello all,

I'm new to using handbrake and was wondering if someone could direct me to the best settings to use for my Nvidia Shield K1 Tablet

I've converted by BluRay disc to MKV with another program and then used preset 'Android Tablet' defaults in Handbrake.

The video is decent quality but I'm hoping to get more out of it and don't mind a larger file size or extra time.
I know this device is more powerful then most tablets and am wondering if anyone has fine tuned settings for this or can direct me to some of the first things to try.

Thanks in advance!

Thanks, that's the scan log. Do you have an encode log as well?

Leave the video at 1920x800, since your device is 1920x1200, instead of downsizing to 1280x534. It should look better without the effective low-passing.

Use the H.264 high profile instead of main profile if your device is so powerful, so the encoder can use more, but computationally difficult features.

Handbrake's High Profile preset is probably a better starting point (i.e. includes both of the above changes) than the Android Tablet preset. Just drop the 2nd AC3 audio track since it's a waste of space for a tablet.

You could try the nightly build as that has many new presets including an Android 1080 one.

There is in the High Profile preset I recommended.
