ATV4 tvOS v9.1 Released - Fixes Fallback and other Audio Issues

Postby EvilDrJerkBerg » Wed Dec 09, 2015 1:03 am

Apple released tvOS 9.1 today, which seems to have fixed the issue of the 5.1 audio tracks not automatically being selected on the Apple TV. It works differently than previous generations though, and doesn't show you both tracks in the audio menu. Instead it works just like it's set, so you only see one track in the audio options.

The patch also fixed an issue where the Apple TV would not trigger Dolby Pro Logic Playback with the ‘Settings > Audio and Video > Surround Sound’ option set to 'Dolby Surround'. It now automatically switches between Pro Logic and Dolby Digital based on the audio track just like it did in previous generation models.

I just updated and now I have lost all sound coming out of my center channel. The movies now list just 1 audio program instead of 2. Guess I will have to do a complete reset unless someone has some suggestions.

Update - any movies that have language listed as "Uknown" have lost all center channel sound although the system still says "DOLBY DIGITAL 3.2.1" Any movies with "English" listed as the language play fine.

Yay Apple.

FWIW, you can easily edit the track language using Subler (and probably using Drax if you're a Windows user).

I checked the Drax version here (https://drax.codeplex.com/) and it doesn't allow you to edit any of the audio track properties. It has the ability to edit some basic metadata and seems mostly focused on chapters.

Apple tv 3 allows me to play movies properly with DD surround - all channels working. Switch to apple tv 4 after update and same movies wont play center channel although the system says DD Surround. Before the update - it worked fine.

Thanks. I used Subler and the movies are now all perfect. I deleted the "Stereo" audio track and just kept the 5.1. Works Great. Thanks for the tip.

I have a Mac! :D ... but Subler ins't script/batch-able for most of what I do :(.

I have many more PCs, and it was easier for me to find tools and script in Windows/.NET. I haven't have to script muxing in long time. I'll see if I can find some updated windows apps, but most of the ones I used to use look long abandoned. Time to learn a new sill set I guess :)

I believe if you do this you will no longer be able to sync/use your videos on any mobile devices, or anything else that doesn't understand 5.1
