A weird question mark on my Bravia TV!

Hello, handbreak crew and users. First post here.
I am toying with DLNA transmission of videos for a few months now, and I recently acquired a great ASUS server that has a built in DLNA solution, that frees me from having to turn on my PC to see my MKVs and AVIs.
The catch, however, was that external subs do not work; the DLNA solution of the server simply will not read the files. I can't do without subs, as my wife does not speak english, the language on a majority of the files.
After tring for a while a few solutions, all them very cumbersome, imperfect and predicated on having to turno on my computer to get the external subs, I surrended and accepted that to soft encode the subs was the only real option for me.
And that works; I have been using handbreak for a few hours now, and it is truly simple to get the job done. I am reconfiguring all my SRTs to UFT-8, and using that codification for the transcoding process, something I thought this would get all the proper symbols for Brazilian Portuguese to show, whitout messing with the english subs that I also encode as an alternative.
BUT I have a problem. While the subs work perfecly on my PC, on two DLNA solutions in my Ipad, and one FTP solution also in my Ipad, when I try to see them in my Smart-TV (a 2014 Sony Bravia KDL-50W805b), they do work, BUT there always is a "boxed" "question mark" showing in the end of the sentence in each and every subtitle. It happens to the subs in both english and in brazilian portuguese subs, andit is annoying as hell.
I know its not something intrinsic of my TV, because embedded subs that I got online do not show that distracting symbol. Only the subs that I am creating myself suffer from that. And again, only in the TV, all my other devices show everything normally.
It is truly curious. I have not found any kind of option or menu on Handbreak that minimally have hinted me as to why this is happening.
Any idea, guys? I have a few hundred files to modify, and would like to solve this before I begin...
Thanks in advance for any help.
