Canon EOS 1080p convert to BluRay quality on DVD

Post by Jarhead »

I've poked around the forum, and I couldn't find recommendations for my situation. For the past six months I've tried to work with CLI ffmeg and x264, but my results are really abysmal. I'm hoping there are people here that know what they are doing and can advise me.

I have a Canon EOS with a bunch of videos of my children are 1920 x 1080p.

I edit the videos and compilation with Corel VideoStudio Pro, exporting as Blu-Ray H.264 1920 x 1080p, creating a .m2t file on disk that is 1.8 Gb in size.

Now, I'd like to compress the file (12 minutes long) to play on DVD, but have at least Blu-Ray movie like quality.

The two DVD players are both going to a 65" 1920 x 1080 LCD.
:
-Panasonic Blu-Ray
-PC with VLC

I would also like to upload it to Facebook so our Grandparents can see the kids, we live a long way from all of them. Maybe the recommendations for settings here would be different than for the Panasonic Blu-Ray player and PC with VLC.

If the encoding/compression of the 12 minute file takes 8 hours, I am okay with that.

What settings would you recommend?
Presets:
-Devices Ignore?
Regular:
-High Profile (I assume I should select this)

Filters:
-Detelecine
-Decomb
-Denoise
-Deblock
-Grayscale

Video:
-Video Codec I assume H.264?
-Frame Rate I assume Same as Source?
-Constant or Variable Framerate?
-- Quality RF setting (I think a lower number means better quality video, however people set it way up at 23 for 1920x1080p from some posts on the board, your suggestion?)
-- Avg Bitrate I'm clueless here, it looks like when I open the file that the bitrate of the source may be 200,000 kbps (is there a program that can read the setting from the video source file?)
--- 2-Pass Encoding I figure yes?
-Optimize Video:
-use advanced Tab instead

I am attempting and encode right now, this is the capture from my activity log:

If your target is a DVD then Handbrake is not the utility for you.

You should be able to do it directly from VideoStudio Pro. I have an old copy of VideoStudio 12 and can do it.

I have X4, but it won't put 1920x1080p on DVD.

I'm actually using the DVD as a "file disc" not a video disk, I do not want the Video_TS, Audio_TS DVD format.

Well you still don't need Handbrake.

Just use whatever free utilities that came with your computer/burner (eg:- Nero, Toast) to make a data disk with the files on it that you want.
