What are the best settings for converting .mkv for the PS3?

Hello,
I'm trying to convert 1080p .mkv files to .mp4 to play on the PS3. Does anyone know any good settings (ie. average bitrate, etc) to maximize the quality of the movie but still maintaining the file size fat32 friendly? Also would the setting have to be different if the movie is 720p instead of 1080p? Thanks in advance.
