What are the differences in using the AppleTV Legacy preset vs the new setting for the 1st Generation AppleTV? Thank you.

The Legacy preset uses ABR encoding, while the ATV preset uses Constant Quality, with a bitrate cap.

Thank you for the quick reply.

What is the practical effect of one over the other, so that I will know which one to choose?

I am currently encoding my first attempt with the new 1Gen AppleTV setting and will subjectively compare it to previous encodings...

In general, you should get better quality from the ATV preset, but the file sizes will likely be larger than the Legacy preset, in most cases (not all).

For DVD sources, the AppleTV preset should rarely reach 2500 Kbps, so it will usually produce smaller files.

Good point, I'm thinking in terms of Blu-Ray sources.
