h.264 iPod auto-select resolution a little dodgy

Post by atl »

Hi. Congrats on the release.

The auto-selection of a 640w output on selection of h.264/iPod (while a clever feature) needs some refinement. With a full-frame PAL source, I had it auto-select an output resolution of 640x496, which isn't so helpful for iPod compatibility.

Looks to me that it's the non-square pixels from a PAL source (720x576) compounded with autocropping 18 pixels horz along with 4 pixels vert. Dunno how you might change this... any "tall" source hard-limited to 640x480? Add a bit of tolerance for rounding down with 4:3ish sources?

This happened almost for sure due to poor source video. I too ripped a 4:3 DVD that had too thick black vertical borders, that needed to be cut off. I just cut a few more lines horizontaly as well, and the 480 vertical res. was fixed.
