Getting iPod tomorrow and have a newb question...

So if I encode a video (Children of Men if you must know) in it's native format (1.78 @ 640 x 352) even though when I open the movie in quicktime I don't see black bars at the top and bottom of my video the iPod will format it correctly (and add the bars)?
