Video artifacting!

Post by randomninjaatk »

Never had this problem before but using the newest beta of handbrake.

Its looks like those black spots and stuff that you seen when you go to the movies and the film is dirty.

I'm gonna call it artifacting but is anyone else seeing this???

I'm using the ipod preset!

Just an update on this, it only seems to be a problem on single pass encoding.

2 pass encodings come out perfectly, I just tried switching to single to save some time.

Hmm seems its also happening on 2 pass, just not to noticebly like before.

Anyone else?

Please post specifics (about the source, your computing environment) and screenshots. There's just not enough information to give suggestions.

On the left side you can see the black line. Also theres another spot harder to see but its at the top in the middle next to his head

Source: Video TS
Settings: Ipod with 2 pass on as the modification

Computer: Mac Mini 1.66 Core Duo 1.25 GB of RAM

Video TS located on an external firewire HDD

Now as I said this happens in single pass also but just more frequently and more obvious.

After doing some research I think I have found the problem,

Constant Quality setting is now on.... By default it used to be off before and I had no problems, I will test this later to make sure and report back

Just to check to obvious, is this visible when playing the original DVD?

Maybe it is the result of a poor job transferring the film to DVD (e.g., they didn't clean the film first, lack of post processing, etc.).

Well its not the original dvd, and from my tests so far it doesn't matter what settings I choose it still does it... :(

Also note that this happens on multiple dvd's even if it straight from the disk and not a video ts rip.
