Question: H.264: 1280 by 720, 24 fps, Progressive Main Profile.
Why do I think it is not as simple as our existing H.264 Main profile?

Re: iTV Video Specs
It might be. "Progressive" might just mean "Main profile without MBAFF (interlacing) support" which is what we do now for Main anyway.dynaflash wrote:Why do I think it is not as simple as our existing H.264 Main profile?
Per another thread, currently iTMS films use Dolby Pro Logic, not Dolby Digital AC3. By decode or output, are you referring to how QuickTime has never been able to send discrete AC3 out, instead decoding it to 2-channel? I'm doubtful @tv will support it any better...though it would be awesome.prigaux wrote:Will the apple TV be able to decode AC3 or will it output it via optical out ?
What does mean MPEG4 ? XVID or DIVX or the MP4 container ?
I believe MPEG4 means MPEG-4 ASP or AVC inside an MP4 container. I'm pretty sure you can't mux XviD or DivX into anything but an .avi, so they're out.
I guess to find out for sure we'll have to wait til dynaflash's is shipped =)
Just to be clear, QuickTime doesn't ship with an AC3 decoder component. QT7 definitely supports multichannel audio such as 5.1 discrete - just not if the source file is encoded as AC3. I'd be mighty surprised if the AppleTV changed that trend, especially since it doesn't incorporate a DVD player. It seems to be more like an iPod, supporting iTunesy formats plus the new HD resolution - or as Apple puts it, "if it's on iTunes, it's on TV". That said, it'll be interesting to see if it would play an mp4 file with an 5.1 discrete AAC soundtrack.jbrjake wrote:By decode or output, are you referring to how QuickTime has never been able to send discrete AC3 out, instead decoding it to 2-channel?
