Settings to convert AVI files for play on two different Samsung TVs (7 year old and 1 year old)

Post by kfcatles »

Description of problem or question:

Hi, what settings would people recommend for converting AVI files so that they can be played on different Samsung TVs - an old one that still recognises AVI files but not some mkv / mp4 files and a new one that does not recognise AVI.

I'd like to do so without losing any quality as the quality isn't always great to begin with.

Kevin.

HandBrake version (e.g., 1.0.0):

Operating system and version (e.g., Ubuntu 16.04 LTS, macOS 10.13 High Sierra, Windows 10 Creators Update):

I used to play MKV files on an old Samsung by changing the file extension to "AVI". That same TV was unable to see MP4 files unless they had the file extension "M4V". That TV was replaced 7 years ago, so it was older than what you're dealing with.
