Embed .idx or .srt into an MP4 movie file?

Post by Niklas »

Since all things point at external subtitle files in Handbrake I am looking for a way to embed them into the MP4 file. Any idéas? Shareware or commercial applications are welcome, because this feature is worth $.

Soz not answering you question; I have a related question:

Is it possible to use an external subtitles file with HB? Do I need a separate program to save the subtitles? Which is good for PC? Is there a simple command-line one (that I can use in a batch script)?

No.

I don't know about "need", but you may if you want - HandBrake just won't make use of them.

SubRip appears to be the gold standard.

No. Ripping subtitles to text necessarily requires real-time human intervention. Go through SubRip a few times and you'll see why. (Hint: DVD subtitles are not stored as text. They are images.)
