Can I rip just a part of a DVD?

Post by kazzer »

Hi!

My hard drive already has one ripped DVD loaded, and I want to do a part of another, to add to the 1st, but I'm not sure how to stop the action part way through.

Is this possible?

You can rip by chapters. If it's a commercial DVD, it will be divided into chapters, and you should be able to figure out which chapters you want to rip.

All you have to do then, is type in the chapter number, or if it is a range of chapters the range (ie 2-7) in the DVD Chapters field of Handbrake.

Then just click Encode.

If it's a home authored DVD, it might not have chapters, in which case you would have to rip the entire DVD and use an editing program to cut out the video you didn't want.

To rip just a portion of a DVD, I've used DVDxDV.

It costs $25, but it does accomplish what you're looking for. If you want to extract video clips from encrypted DVD's, you'll need to use MacTheRipper first.
