This happens so often in most open source projects, in that PDF's are so small and easy to include with the downloaded software, that it OUGHT to be done, and it ought to be updated with every release, as the current download with that version.
This idea of wanting to read the manual, that is not included in and with the software, then requires people to go back online, and to then not be able to get the manual as a downloadable PDF, but to go to an index and to then have to click through all the topics as individual web pages, which is time wasting, frustrating and a pain in the [Censored] - more so since being able to get the manual to keep on ones hard drive, is a real pain in the [Censored] for everyone to produce.
This kind of a problem, in the lack of ONE function, then required 10,000,000 people to come to the website, and then then open up all 50 pages, which means 50,000,000 loads of data and click throughs and links and all sorts of BS, instead of including an up to date manual with each current download.
This is the common reason why Open Source software has fared so badly and the uptake is so low, and it's commercially unviable, because at the worse, some software is on some sites, and all the extensions / add ons / functional codecs etc., and all their manuals etc., are spread all over the internet, instead of being singular integrated packages, with the manuals as well.
So if you could move out of this bearded wierdo in the basement coding for Unix, and make a slick all inclusive download, then the world and everyone else in it, could get up to speed without having to waste their time traversing the wasted time lands of the internet, for every single individual.
Thanks.
Common Open Source Errors - The Manual
Re: Common Open Source Errors - The Manual
HandBrake is a volunteer-driven project, people work on what they want to work on. Be glad there's any documentation at all
Re: Common Open Source Errors - The Manual
My proposition - to the Hand Break Crew and for all Open Sores projects generally.
1. Include the manual with the product download, in PDF.
The PDF's can be made very small, and it saves millions of people getting back to the websites, millions of times, when they could have found this out in the download.
2. You response.
It's done by volunteers. Shut up and be grateful for it.
3. What can I say, I don't have to go around calling people names.
They generally earn their reputation and the software dies with them.
Off into the mists of time, never to be heard of again.
