Handbrake subtitle font conflict

Conflict of fonts between Aegisub & Handbrake

Hello to all,

I am a long time user of Hanbrake, but never had to ask advice...until now.
I have been trying to resolve a font problem after ripping a file.

The film is La Femme Nikita.

I had to re-work the english subtitles in Aegisub for timing, translation,etc.
The font used in Aegisub was the default one.

After ripping in Handbrake, it seems that on any foreign word that has an accent, (á or é) the finished subtitle is corrupted.

My preference would be to have a soft subtitle option, rather than hard.

Any advice?

Update to HandBrake 1.3.3 and try again.

Without a log to show what you're doing, subtitle-wise, only general guesses can be made.

Most likely is that your system doesn't have a full UTF-8 font that matches what Aegisub is asking for. If you're passing the subtitle through, the player is responsible for rendering the subtitles, Burned in, handbrake would be rendering them. But both would use the system font closest to what is coded.

Or, you have specified the wrong encoding for the subtitle file.

Again, having the log would go a long way towards answering your question.
