how to change the aspect ratio for DVD using handbrake

Post by fab2003 »

I am ripping to my personal file several old DVD movies and concerts. How can I convert to 16:9 ? They sound good after hand break but those black strips on the side are not appealing. Is there a way to make this happen besides stretching on the Tv?

I think, there will always be a quality drop. If you just stretch the image to fit into 16:9, then e.g. people will have the same height, but suddenly will be much thicker as the image is stretched.

And if you scale to 16:9 and cut the non visible parts top and bottom, you're missing picture information.

You can crop, you can stretch (distort), you have have side bars, or you can leave it 4:3. That's it.
