H.264 NVEnc Settings for .mkv encoding

Post by bctf1 »

I currently have the settings below for my H.264 NVEnc custom preset in HB 1.3.3 in Windows 10 for .mkv encoding. I am curious to know what settings you have or any suggestions you would make.

Framerate - Same as source, constant framerate
Constant Quality - 22
Encoder Preset - Slow
Encoder Profile - High
Encoder Level - Auto
Audio - Auto Passthru

Thanks for your reply. Please explain why variable framerate would be preferable to constant..

You didn't say you were asking to be educated in the why and wherefore of recommendations.

If your source is not a constant frame rate, forcing it can cause issues with smoothness.

The same question can be asked the other way - why would CFR be preferable to variable?
