How to switch on subtitles?

Post by igirl »

Using Version 1.2.2 for OSX I'm trying to get subtitles to be available in an output of M4V.

I keep checking forced, burned in, default in different combinations but never get the option of subtitles to appear on playback of the M4V file.
Quicktime Player and Apple TV 4 show nothing under language or subtitle.

It's a foreign language film and the subtitles are in English.

Neither QuickTime nor the AppleTV are capable of displaying DVD-format (VOBSUB) subtitles.

You could use third-party media players on the AppleTV (e.g. Plex, or VLC Media Player), however.

Selecting "forced only" will often result in no subtitles included in the file, because it requires that the subtitles themselves be tagged with the "forced" attribute.

Thanks so much - we'll try VLC for Apple TV - and avoid Forced Only....
