Handbrake Video Tab - Extra Options?

Handbrake 1.2.2 - Windows 7 / Windows 10

In older versions of Handbrake, a checkbox existed for "Use Advanced Tab instead".

By selecting this ghosted the settings for: x264 Preset, x264 Tune, Fast Decode, H.264 Profile, H.264 Level + Extra Options

Then on the Advanced Tab, the user could set various other settings - or use the 'x264 Encoder Options' box to override the drop-downs and sliders.

In Handbrake 1.2.2, the Advanced Tab is gone, but can the 'Extra Options' box in the newer version take all the same arguments/parameters as the 'x264 Encoder Options' box in the older versions?

When using the Extra Options box in the new version, the user can still select x264 Preset, x264 Tune, Fast Decode, H.264 Profile, H.264 Level, therefore do the arguments/parameters in the box override what has been selected with the menus/sliders or vice versa?

Yes, extra options can take all of the same options. Most of them that users add are garbage, but you can do it.

Yes, specific options will override the preset/tune/etc selections.

Not etc. -- extra options (text box) overrides preset and tune, but it overridden by profile and level unless those are set to auto ;) :P

The tooltip for "Encoder Profile: Auto/High/Main/Baseline" says 'Sets and ensures compliance with the specified profile'.

I want to use all of the Advanced Settings that previously existed in older versions of Handbrake in the text box.

Which of these settings will the Encoder Profile setting then override/ignore?

Any of them that impact the output bitstream, as opposed to the mere analysis options.

If you don't understand what they do, you really probably shouldn't be setting them.

I understand the parameters.

The difference is that in the old version of HB, the profile setting was ghosted/negated by using the advanced settings.

This time using the text box, it is still active.

Anything that affects the profile compliance of the output (except resolution and frame rate, as it's impractical to override them at this stage). Setting profile to Auto will ensure nothing gets overridden (same for Encoder Level).
