Handbrake Decomb -- Best of Class 2019

As part of an ongoing effort to test the best production solutions for commercial streaming and local delivery, a group of us revisited the deinterlacing issues for HD first investigated by Nick Hope and others fully eight years ago.

Having proposed a synthetic benchmark for comparing software deinterlacers, we tested five popular ones -- Interpolate, Handbrake Deinterlace Fast, Handbrake Decomb, QTGMC Medium (from Happy Otter Scripts), and Yadif Plug-In.

Without too much surprise, Handbrake Decomb came in a virtual dead heat with QTGMC in the Edge Definition test, and subjectively Best in playability (on my own system).

Just wanted to share, as the Handbraje developers aren't getting paid for such arguably world-class work.
Oh, no corporate logos were harmed in the making of these tests, mates.

Below are the Temporal and Edge Definition shootouts:

You all can be pleased.
Now, if someone would port it as an OFX plugin...

Thanks for sharing this.

My guess is that Decomb EEDI2 will take the cake where edges and aliasing are concerned. While slow, it's the best I've come across.

Well both QTGMC and EEDI2 are too damn slow for me -- I've only got so many years left.
Once again, Decomb Default is my comfort area. Decomb Fast isn't to be ignored, nor is Yadif.

I think most producers would agree on the time vs. quality thing; however, I think YouTube is still using a quick and messy Blend algorithm.

"A hobbyist is just a slow producer."
