Different AAC encoders

Post by Nomis101 »

If one build its own HandBrake on Mac it is possible to choose between 3 different AAC encoders. The default CoreAudio AAC, ffmpeg AAC, and FDK AAC. In the HB documentation I read, the CoreAudio one has a better quality than the ffmpeg one. Is this sill valid since HandBrake switched to ffmpeg 4.0? And how does it compare to the FDK AAC? Thanks.

Core Audio is one of the best encoders out there. FDK is a close if not equal second followed by ffmpeg 4.0 (It's better than libav but still has some issues).

Core Audio's the only choice on mac. No sense in offering any others.
