Encoding Videos and handshot sporting events

Post by UltiTyler »

I have a collection of movies that I'd like to encode in the h265 Video Codec and while I'm at it I would like to reduce the file size of all of my hand-shot sporting event films. I have experimented with Handbrake in the past, but just recently I bought a CPU that should handle the program better. Now, I seem to be at a loss as to where my presets should be set. I set up all of my movies in the queue, but after checking the first 12 films, I realize that only SOME of the videos are being encoded to a reduced file size. Four of the videos increased in file size. So is there a way I can set the presets up so that I loose minimal quality and reduce file sizes? Or do I need to correct the settings depending on what film I'm encoding?

Without activity logs to see what settings you're using and what handbrake found when looking at the video, it's impossible to say much.

The red-on-pink box above explains where to find your logs.

Sorry I forgot to paste logs. Like I said in the OP some of these movies encode to a smaller file size; but some files do not. Specifically: Ant Man, Snowden, and the Hunger Games (all).

Here's the individual logs for the movies. The first one is Ant man, a movie that didn't reduce in size, and the second pastebin is for a movie that did reduce significantly in size; as I expected.
